Chad Elie, John Campos, and the Department of Justice (DoJ) were ordered to submit briefings to the Court on January 26th, 2012. The briefings were “addressing the implications, if any, of the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel’s [“OLC”] recent opinion, Whether Proposals by Illinois and New York to Use the Internet and Out-of-State Transaction Processors to Sell Lottery Tickets to In-State Adults Violate the Wire Act . . . for this case and particularly the pending motions to dismiss the indictment.”

The rumour mill proved right on again recently as was expected the relationship between Playtech and Scientific Games was experiencing some difficulty and as the recent announcement suggests there is a remedy in the works. The firms have stated now that they are entering into an “agreement to restructure their strategic relationship relating to internet gaming products and services.” The press released continued “Under the agreement, Playtech will license its leading online gaming software to Scientific Games on a mutually non-exclusive basis for use by certain categories of Scientific Games’ current and prospective customers, including U.S. casinos

The online gambling software firm Playtech has again outperformed many other firms this quarter even though the odds were against them. Playtech withdrew from the French jurisdiction recently which some analysts considered a good move.

The online poker world was dealt a losing hand this summer. Referred to as Black Friday, June 29th marked the day online Poker came to a screeching halt in the United States.
