Attempted Robbery of Stratosphere Poker Room
Stratosphere Poker Room
Early this morning, Tuesday April 20, a lone gunman attempted to rob the Stratosphere Casino Hotel poker room. The suspect, described by the Metro Police Department as being 5’10″ 160 lbs, in his early twenties, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and waving a handgun, failed to find any cash or chips after he jumped over the counter into the poker room’s cashier cage.
A poker room employee saw the man with the gun and yelled for players to get down on the floor. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, possibly as a result of the employee’s quick action. The suspect fled the poker room and the casino without any cash or chips. It was not reported how the robber left the area and no description of a vehicle was given.
This is the third Las Vegas casino robbery in the last four months, the most notable being the $1.5 Million armed holdup of the Bellagio Casino in December. A suspect was captured and awaits trial in that incident. The Rio Resort was robbed in February of chips and Metro Police continue their search for the prime suspect, Steven Gao.
